POSITION SUMMARY:

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive critical level nursing care to patients with life‑threatening conditions in the Intensive Care Unit. The RN is expected to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care, utilizing advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to manage complex patient conditions. In addition to performing patient assessments, administering medications, managing care plans, and critical thinking, this role involves continuous monitoring, detailed documentation, and effective communication with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
License

Required:

  • Current Nevada RN license required.
Certificate

Required:

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required.
  • ACLS certificate required.
Minimum

Work Experience:

  • Professional customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English, bilingual abilities preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months ICU experience, 2 years’ ICU experience preferred.

POSITION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patient Assessment
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of critically ill patients, including monitoring vital signs, interpreting laboratory results, and evaluating overall condition.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments, clinical data, and physician orders.
  • Continuously monitor and reassess patient status, making rapid adjustments to care plans as needed.
  • Accurately assess and document patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients and ensure integration of information among the multi‑disciplinary health care team.
Medication Management
  • Administer medications, including IV drips, titrations, and emergency medications, with precision and attention to detail. Monitor for and manage potential side effects and interactions, and adjust dosages according to patient response.
  • Educate patients and families on medication purposes, potential side effects, and post‑discharge medication management.
Communication
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary health care team to ensure seamless care coordination and continuity. Participate in daily rounds, bedside shift handoffs, and emergency briefings to discuss patient status, care plans, and any changes in condition.
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families, explaining complex medical information and addressing concerns.
Documentation
  • Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Maintain thorough records of patient progress, changes in condition, and any adverse events or complications.
Judgment
  • Utilize advanced clinical judgment to assess and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions, including initiating emergency interventions.
  • Prioritize patient care activities based on the acuity of patient needs and overall unit demands.
  • Collaborate with the health care team to make informed decisions that optimize patient outcomes and safety.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement nursing plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used medications: action, dose, and side effects.
  • Observes the rights of medication administration.
  • Demonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration.
  • Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures.
  • Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Assesses and documents IV site per unit standard.
