Location: Gardnerville
Overview
Surgery RN (GI/Endoscopy) – Full Time position located in Gardnerville, NV. Provides individualized, goal-directed nursing care using the nursing process and primary nursing concepts, in accordance with department and hospital policies.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current NV Nursing license.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification.
- PALS certification required for Pre/Post Anesthesia Unit (must obtain within 90 days).
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people.
- Appreciation of and desire to be part of a healthcare team.
- Assess and diagnose patient and family needs to provide quality care.
- Verify patient identity, operative procedure/site, surgeon, consents, allergies, NPO status, and last void.
- Assess psychological status, understanding, perception of surgery, and anxiety level.
- Obtain pre-operative medical history and document clearly in the patient record.
- Ensure availability and condition of instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to case start.
- Communicate realistic problem lists and plans of care with patients and families.
- Develop patient/family teaching and discharge plans; provide perioperative instructions.
- Follow procedures for pre-operative anesthesia interventions and surgeon preferences for surgical interventions.
- Administer medications per hospital policies, monitor for adverse effects, and maintain IV access as required.
- Assist as scrub/circulating nurse and ensure safe transfer of patient to and from the operating room.
- Perform intraoperative counts and maintain aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
- Prepare surgical site aseptically and correctly label specimens.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of nursing care to support care coordination and quality care.
- Complete nursing assessments during pre-operative and post-operative phases per policy.
- Document medication administration accurately in the MAR, including time, reason for omission, and site for injection (as applicable).
- Document narcotics administration in Pyxis and EMR; record any unusual perioperative occurrences promptly.
