The Outdoor Program Specialist position is on‑call and does not qualify for benefits. This posting is intended to fill two positions.
Make a positive impact in the lives of at‑risk youth in our community. The Outdoor Program Specialist serves a key role in supporting probation youth in Douglas County's Outdoor Behavioral Health Program, which helps to promote their personal growth, responsibility, and positive decision‑making all while exploring the outdoors of our beautiful community. The right individual for the position will be someone with dedication to and experience working with this unique group of juveniles, and someone who is committed to helping the Juvenile Probation Department achieve its mission to reduce delinquent behavior among youth through targeted interventions.
PrimaryObjectives
Performs intermediate work providing supervision support for youth participating in the Outdoor Behavioral Health Program, performs a variety of other duties in support of the Juvenile Probation department, as requested; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.

Responsibilities- High School diploma/GED; and one (1) year of experience working with at risk youth OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at date of employment.
- Valid Driver's License.
- First Aid and CPR certification, within two (2) months of date of employment.
- This work requires the occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands; frequently requires standing; occasionally requires walking, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling.
- Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communication and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
- Work regularly requires exposure to blood borne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment); frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to outdoor weather conditions in all seasons; occasionally requires work working near moving mechanical parts, working in high/precarious places and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
