Range Technician; Seasonal

This position is located in Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office, in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1560 hours in a service year. • GS-9:
  You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-8 level that demonstrates the ability to: independently conduct rangeland utilization and trend monitoring; plan, design, and inspect structural range improvements; execute integrated weed management projects including chemical herbicide application; and compile resource documentation to update automated grazing databases and support NEPA land-use decisions.
• Education:
  
  You must possess two (2) full years of graduate education related to the work of the position such as forestry, range management or conservation, wildlife management, agriculture, crop or plant science.

  You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Only graduate education beyond the first 18 semester hours can be combined with GS-8 level experience.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands:
The incumbent will be in the field approximately 70 percent of the time. Work demands the ability and physical stamina to hike over steep or rugged terrain weighted down with monitoring equipment and perform work in adverse weather conditions. The incumbent may be expected to participate in outdoor assignments year-round with subsequent exposure to heat, dust, cold, and arduous physical activity.

Motor vehicle (including four-wheel drive) operation may occur under all types of weather and road conditions, and at all times of the day and night. The incumbent may be required to operate UTVs and/or ride horseback.

Work Environment:
During the field season normally eight to ten months (March through December) the incumbent can be expected to be exposed to some weather extremes including temperatures ranging from 40 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and moisture as well as stinging insects and other hazards of the outdoors. During the winter months the majority of work will be performed in an office setting.

Performance of the work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precaution.
