Description

The Safety and Health Manager report directly to the Gold Bar Site Manager and is responsible for leading the site’s Safety function, including the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of all safety programs. As a member of the Gold Bar Leadership Team, this role provides strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company safety standards.

The Safety and Health Manager report directly to the Gold Bar Site Manager and is responsible for leading the site’s Safety function, including the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of all safety programs. As a member of the Gold Bar Leadership Team, this role provides strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company safety standards.

The Safety Manager promotes a strong safety culture across the organization, supporting safe work practices, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives to protect employees, contractors, and the surrounding environment. This position works closely with all departments to ensure safety remains a core value throughout the organization while maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership and Culture:
  • Lead sitewide safety and health initiatives to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Supervise and develop safety and health staff through coaching, mentoring, and cross training.
  • Promote and enforce company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key member of the site leadership team, supporting operational safety integration.
Regulatory Compliance and Government Relations:
  • Ensure compliance with all site, corporate, federal, and state safety and health regulations.
  • Serve as the primary site representative for state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations including those from Mine Safety and Health Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Training and Workforce Development:
  • Ensure all newly hired employees complete required safety and health training.
  • Facilitate and participate in annual MSHA refresher training programs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure ongoing workforce safety competency.
Emergency Response and Industrial Hygiene:
  • Supervise the site Emergency Response Team and ensure readiness for emergency situations.
  • Lead industrial hygiene initiatives and ensure site compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Conduct incident investigations and complete detailed reports of safety events.
Safety Reporting & Budget Management:
  • Develop and maintain the safety and health budget on monthly and annual cycles.
  • Compile and deliver required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual safety reports.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior safety and health role within mining, industrial, or construction environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of mining, industrial, and construction safety regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to senior management, regulators, and site personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer based reporting systems.
Preferred:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or progress toward certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
  • Frequent computer based work and administrative duties.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing office tasks.
  • Occasional walking, climbing stairs, and navigating industrial work areas.
  • Exposure to minesite environments that may be loud, damp, hot, or cold.
  • Work performed at elevations exceeding 6,000 feet.
  • Travel to operational areas and other locations may be required.
