Description of the workplace:
The Neurodegenerative Research group is focused on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively unimpaired volunteers, who undergo extensive testing with neuroimaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological testing. Our group applies sophisticated statistical analyses to these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease.

The postdoc will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers, who are dedicated to increasing understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and this position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund.

Work duties and areas or responsibilities:
As an assistant researcher, 50% of your time will involve research, while the other 50% will be lab management duties. Research duties will involve supporting neuroimaging or AI projects (depending on expertise of the candidate) ongoing in the lab. This may involve data curation, processing, or analysis. Leading an independent project is also a possibility. The lab management duties may include assisting with processes related to hiring, purchasing, social event planning, documentation, mentoring, digital infrastructure management, website management, and/or communications.

Other work responsibilities may include: data curation and processing; composition, editing, or executing of computational scripts; presenting data and findings at internal and external research meetings; composition of scientific manuscripts; informal mentorship of and skill-sharing with other employees; and/or composition of grants and/or research fellowships. Other work duties may also occur.

Qualifications:

The following are also required for the position:

• Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline;
• Excellent communications skills in English, both verbal and written
• Candidate should be thorough, detail-oriented, and should demonstrate an intrinsic motivation
• Strong organizational and judgment skills combined with the ability to work independently, with a high sense of responsibility and initiative.
• Competence in computational programming (e.g. using python, R, bash etc)
• Ability to independently perform large-scale data analyses
• A proven track record of research productivity

The following are considered to be a merit:

• Experience with curation, preprocessing, and/or analysis of neuroimaging data
• Documented experience with deep learning
• Familiarity and experience with high-performance cluster-based computing
• Familiarity with git and Git Hub
• Familiarity with best practices in reproducibility and open science

This is a full-time employment limited to 1 year with a preliminary start date on or after September 1st, 2026, or according to agreement.
