Project Assistant in Microglia Imaging Using Two-Photon Microscopy
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46,000 students and 8,500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
We are looking for a motivated project assistant to join a newly established research group at Faculty of Medicine and Multi Park at Lund University. Our research aims to uncover how microglia dynamically modulate neural circuits to shape memory formation and extinction across health, psychiatric disorders (e.g., anxiety and fear disorders), and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The successful candidate will work at the interface of circuit neuroscience and microglial biology, using cutting-edge methodologies including: two-photon microscopy, chemo genetics, behavioral phenotyping and transcriptomics.
Conduct research project under supervision of lab head Perform in vivo microglia imaging and mouse behavioral experiments Analyze neuronal and microglial activity datasets (e.g., calcium imaging) Conduct immunohistochemistry and morphological analysis of microglia and neurons Have the opportunity to continue scientific career path in the lab
Master of Science in neurobiology Hands-on experience with in vivo imaging (either neurons or glia) Experience with microglia biology Behavioral experiments Solid data analysis skills Evidence of conducting mouse experiments and surgeries RNA sequencing and analysis
We offer a supportive environment for developing an independent research profile, mentorship in grant writing and career development, access to state-of-the-art neuroscience and imaging infrastructure. This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of one year. The start date of the position if flexible but the earlier the better.
