Lund University
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46,000 students and 8,500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
About the research groupWe are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a newly established research group at Faculty of Medicine and Multi Park at Lund University. Our research aims to uncover how microglia dynamically modulate neural circuits to shape memory formation and extinction across health, psychiatric disorders (e.g., anxiety and fear disorders), and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The successful candidate will work at the interface of circuit neuroscience and microglial biology, using cutting-edge methodologies including: two-photon microscopy, miniatured microscope, optogenetics, behavioral phenotyping and transcriptomics.
Workduties
- Lead independent research projects within the lab's research program
- Perform in vivo calcium imaging and behavioral experiments
- Analyze neuronal and microglial activity datasets (e.g., calcium imaging)
- Conduct immunohistochemistry and morphological analysis of microglia and neurons
- Apply for postdoc fellowship with help from the lab whenever possible.
Essential requirements
- PhD in neuroscience Hands-on experience with in vivo calcium imaging (either neurons or glia)
- Experience with microglia biology or neuroimmune interactions
- Behavioral experiments
- Solid data analysis skills (e.g., MATLAB or Python for calcium imaging data)
- FELASA B certification to conduct mouse experiments (or equivalent)
Meritorious qualifications
- Optogenetics or chemo genetics Transcriptomic data analysis Experience with neurodegenerative disease models (e.g., AD/PD) Ability to develop independent research directions
- Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained their PhD degree no more than three years prior to the Final date to receive applications.
We offer a supportive environment for developing an independent research profile, mentorship in grant writing and career development, access to state-of-the-art neuroscience and imaging infrastructure. This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of two years initially with possibility of extension. The start date of the position is flexible, however better in fall of 2026.
About the positionThe position is limited to two years with a preliminary start date of or by agreement. It is a full-time position.
A postdoctoral position is limited to two years with the possibility to extend to three years according to collective agreement for postdocs (The Swedish Agency for Government Employers). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in a scientific career and as an opportunity to develop key competencies as a researcher.
Applying for the position The application is done via the Lund University recruitment system. The application must contain a personal letter motivating your interest in the position and how it fits your skills and merits. The application must also include your degree certificate, your complete CV and any additional relevant documents that you wish to invoke (grades, contact information for professional references, letters of recommendation etc).
The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.
