Mine Maintenance Electrician

Job Description

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician typically works a rotating 5/4 days/night schedule. The electrician repairs and maintains all shovels, hauling and support equipment through planned maintenance scheduling; monitors equipment; communicates equipment needs and issues; partners with operations departments and mobile planning to provide both tactical and strategic support for the needs of the mine to operate in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

• Lead by example in all of Marigold’s safety processes, ensuring safe practices are utilized while performing work.
• Utilize computer technology and a work order system to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, including preventative maintenance and component replacement.
• Implement continuous improvement of maintenance strategy that fully utilizes available workforce to achieve maximum equipment availability.
• Interpret information from schematics, maintenance and parts manuals.
• Perform work area housekeeping duties.
• Inspect, test and maintain all electrical mining equipment on site, including Siemens, G.E., and P&H power and control AC variable frequency drive systems.
• Inspect, test and maintain high voltage electric shovel substation switch gear.
• Inspect, test and maintain high voltage shovel trailing cable including associated cable connections and cable testing devices.
• Use voltmeters, ammeters and related testing apparatus to test defective equipment.
• Determine if work areas are safe and free of hazards.
• Perform field level risk assessments.
• Determine severity of equipment downtime and estimate time to make repairs.
• Order correct parts for procurement from the warehouse or supplier.
• Comply with company contamination control policies.
• Maintain unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, including immediately reporting and mitigating spills and other environmental impacts.

• Communicate effectively in English using all standard forms of business communication.
• Exhibit excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
• Understand and practice company SOPs and policies.
• Understand failure and wear analysis.
• Strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (e.g., guarding, blocking, lock out tag out).
• Operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
• Work safely and recognize electrical hazards.
• Examine tools and equipment for safety and install safety devices.
• Read electrical prints and schematics and utilize appropriate test equipment.
• Utilize basic hand tools.
• Maintain consistent attendance.
• Hold a valid driver license.

• A minimum of 2 years electrical experience in a mining environment is preferred.
• Own and maintain required personal tools as per the technician’s level of expertise.
• MSHA electrical cards preferred, but not required.
• Individuals with strong experience in heavy equipment electrical systems are preferred.
• Strong background with P&H Shovels, Komatsu 930 haul trucks high voltage electrical is preferred.
