Location: Lovelock
Position Summary
The Department of Corrections is seeking an Electrician 2 for the Lovelock Correctional Center. The role involves routine electrical repairs, including low and high voltage replacement of components, switches, outlets, and fixtures; lighting and control systems repair and diagnostics; cable testing; conduit installation; and other electrical system diagnostics.
Work ScheduleTypical schedule Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (subject to change). Extended hours may be required on short notice in emergencies.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to repair orders; establish repair priority; diagnose problems using appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Estimate job costs, acquire materials, and document time and material costs for billing.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules; conduct routine inspections, cleaning, servicing, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair circuit breakers, transformers, emergency generators, high voltage primary power lines, HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, electric motors, and lighting.
- Install or remove wiring, computer cables, power panels, circuit breakers, lighting, switches, and receptacles per code; read blueprints and schematics, calculate load, design new circuits, update blueprints.
- Provide training, direction, and work review to maintenance staff, students, and others.
- Assist contractors by providing information, reviewing bids, and assessing completed work for quality and code compliance.
- Serve as lead worker for lower-level electricians or inmate crews, coordinating work, providing training, and documenting performance.
- Implement security procedures to secure work areas and account for inmates, staff tools, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program followed by one year of journeyman-level experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to set job priorities, prepare documentation, and coordinate team work on large projects.
- Skill in troubleshooting and repairing electro/mechanical and electro/magnetic locks and gates.
- Preferred:
Experience in a correctional environment.
