Location: Incline Village
Under general supervision, performs journey level work in the operation of heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of county roads and facilities, and performs related work as required.
This is an open competitive, countywide promotional recruitment to fill a full‑time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The position is located in Incline Village, NV. Candidates must be available to work there full time and continuously.

Responsibilities and ExperienceThree years of progressively responsible work experience in maintenance and construction, including at least two years operating medium equipment; or one year as a Medium Equipment Operator and certification as a Heavy Equipment Operator by the Washoe County Roads & Stormwater Superintendent; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Qualifications and LicensingA valid Class A State of Nevada Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement is required at the time of application and must be maintained. Must obtain NV Flagging and Traffic Control Technician certifications within six months of appointment and maintain them.
Ideal Candidate- Has experience with various types of heavy equipment used in a construction environment, preferably in road maintenance.
- Has experience working in inclement weather conditions, including performing snow removal operations.
- Is comfortable working in outdoor elements year‑round.
- Has experience using safe work practice in a construction environment.
- Demonstrates commitment to public service and values exceptional customer service.
- Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Incline positions are covered under the WCEA non‑supervisory contract. Employees receive a $400.00 biweekly allowance for those residing in Incline Village, or a $150.00 transportation allowance per pay period for non‑residents assigned there. Additional benefits for qualifying positions include paid commute time, Washoe County provided carpool, and eligibility to claim 24 miles of mileage round‑trip.
Housing is not provided for the Incline Village incumbent.
Employees residing in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe, or Susanville are required to do so as of their first day of work.
Washoe County hires new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range. Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
All CDL holders in this classification are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with County policies.
