Douglas County Public Works Water Utility Division is seeking to fill a vacancy for a Utilities System Technician. This position plays a vital public-service role by ensuring our community has safe, reliable, and properly maintained water utility services. Requiring a dependable and safety-conscious individual with a commitment to maintaining high standards of service, the Utility Systems Technician ensures the efficient operation, maintenance, and repairs of the water treatment, distribution, and collection systems that serve the residents of Douglas County.
Demonstrating strong communications skills, accountability, and customer-service, the ideal candidate for this hands-on water utility maintenance position will be someone who can contribute effectively as part of a larger team dedicated to providing these essential public services.
This vacancy may be filled at a Technician Trainee, Technician I, or Technician II level dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. Pay Range:
Utility Systems Technician Trainee: $24.48 - $31.84 Utility Systems Technician I: $28.00 - $39.20 Utility Systems Technician II: $33.42 - $46.79
Performs basic level work maintaining County's water and sewage treatment plants and distribution systems to maintain safe and great tasting water to county residents. Checking all system wells, tanks and booster stations, while maintaining site cleanliness and repair meter pits when needs arrive. Marking all underground utilities for water system; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Performs various manual labor duties to include: heavy lifting, shoveling, weeding, painting, yard maintenance, and other related assignments.
- Cleans screens, degreasers and wet wells.
- Checks operations of valves, pumps, and air blowers.
- Cleans and maintains pumps and motors; lubricates pumps and valves.
- Performs routine maintenance at water storage facilities; maintains auxiliary generators; replaces filters and mechanical seals; maintains daily records.
- Makes routine checks of equipment used for fluid level, adjustments, and safety factors; adds fluids and makes routine adjustments; welds and fabricates tools, equipment, and utility parts, and cleans equipment as necessary.
- Sets up traffic controls and barricades to protect workers from traffic; directs and controls traffic around work sites.
- Applies herbicides for weed control; constructs and repairs fences; pours and finishes concrete.
- Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience with basic plumbing and/or construction knowledge; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS/ LICENSES
- Valid Driver's License
- Obtain one (1) of the following State of Nevada certifications within 18 months of date of employment:
Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator, Grade I Water Distribution Operator, Grade I Water Treatment Operator
