Overview

DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Casework Management Specialist 1 (under filling a Casework Management Specialist
3) in the Pahrump, Nevada Child Welfare office. Incumbents work under close supervision and function in a trainee capacity, learning to determine social service needs of clients, develop solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management services. Advancement to the next level may occur after meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and endorsement of the appointing authority.

Incumbents provide child welfare services to children and families to develop and implement case plans that present intervention strategies to meet the child's needs, ensure medical, mental health and educational needs are met, and provide strength‑based family‑centered case management services that promote safety, well‑being, and permanency. Responsibilities include home visits, monitoring services, and report preparation and record keeping. Incumbents receive training in performing the duties outlined in the series concept.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and implement case plans and safety plans by interviewing clients, families, collaterals, court stakeholders, and care providers to support safety, permanency, and well‑being.
  • Continuously assess clients using agency‑approved assessment tools to evaluate, identify, and determine social service needs, and advise clients of their service‑related rights and responsibilities.
  • Identify goals, develop strategies based on established objectives and available resources, and review client history to recommend changes, remediate deficits, and provide intervention strategies.
  • Assist care providers in learning techniques to enhance the care provider/client relationship, evaluate the effectiveness of plans, and revise as needed.
  • Utilize evidence‑based practices to bring about behavioral change and ensure client goals are accomplished.
  • Monitor client and family progress; develop and coordinate resources and services to meet client and family needs, make referrals, and assist clients in obtaining financial assistance.
  • Coordinate services with outside agency providers and consult with clinicians, social workers, medical personnel, vendors, contractors, school districts, courts, and community organizations to exchange information.
  • Serve as a motivator and negotiator to resolve service delivery issues and utilize crisis intervention to manage angry, hostile, or combative clients.
  • Conduct assessments, perform home visits using motivational interviewing, monitor follow‑up services, arrange transportation for clients, prepare court reports, ensure services are provided, monitor quality of living environments, train care providers, review billing forms, and assist clients with program eligibility.
  • Adhere to all regulatory and agency standards for documentation, and prepare a variety of written reports for courts, federal and state agencies, and treatment teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, staff meetings, committees, task forces, and community outreach to develop program awareness and partnerships.
  • Attend and participate in in‑service training, workshops, seminars, and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities related to job performance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, special education, human growth and development, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, gerontology, or a closely related social science or human services field.
