Bookkeeper/ Accounting Clerk, Accounting Assistant, Accounts Receivable/ Collections, Accounts Payable Clerk
MAC Construction | New Albany, IN | Full-Time, On-Site
Why This RoleAt MAC Construction, accuracy lives in the details — the line items on a vendor's invoice, the cost code a material charge belongs to, and the trial balances that get imported into the financial statements at month-end. We are looking for a General Accountant / Bookkeeper who takes those details seriously and can move comfortably between the day-to-day of accounts payable and the bigger picture of general accounting.
This is a hands-on role, split roughly evenly between the two: about half your week keeping material and equipment invoices flowing accurately into job cost, and the other half handling reconciliations, journal entries, and the reporting that keeps our books clean. If you find satisfaction in an invoice coded to the right job and a bank reconciliation that ties out to the penny, we'd like to meet you.
WhatYou'll Do
Your week splits about evenly between accounts payable and general accounting.
Accounts Payable (~50%)
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and proper job cost coding
- Key material invoices into job cost and process equipment-related invoices
- Match invoices to purchase orders and resolve discrepancies with project managers
- Serve as a point of contact for vendors on payment and invoice questions
General Accounting (~50%)
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries
- Enter and review trial balances and assist in preparing financial statements
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and research variances
- Support month-end and year-end close
- Produce recurring and ad-hoc reports for management, including job cost support
- Assist with audit requests, and support annual review / tax preparation
- Minimum 5 years of accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience
- Solid working knowledge of accounts payable and general accounting through the trial balance
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfort with accounting software and intermediate Excel skills
- Clear, professional communication with vendors and internal project teams
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and meet close and payment deadlines
- Prior experience with a construction contractor or in the construction industry
- Familiarity with Viewpoint (Vista / Spectrum)
- Experience with job costing and equipment invoicing
- Competitive salary: $55,000-$60,000 annually, based on experience
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and holidays
- A stable, growing company where the accounting team is valued and your work is visible
- On-site collaboration with an experienced project and accounting team
