The mission of the Office of Student Life is to partner with students, faculty, and staff to foster and support student engagement opportunities for co-curricular learning, student involvement, leadership development, and creative expression. Our guiding principles are Students First, Ethic of Care, and Building Community.
Department Specific Responsibilities- Oversees the Multicultural Student Center. The Multicultural Student Center is now the Grenadier Union. Through informal and formal assessment of students, the Student Programming Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the Grenadier Union meets technological/space/meeting needs of students.
- Manages Greek Life and Intramurals.
- Ensures Greek organizations follow IU policy, procedures, and best practices and provides appropriate trainings.
- Supports the Associate Director with the management of the Campus Activities Budget.
- Develops, implements, and assesses a reimagined Intramural program.
- Expectation of professional development to stay current with the Higher Ed and Greek Community landscape.
- Liaison to external Greek advisors, Greek alumni, and national offices.
- Serves on the IUS Fest Committee and the First 6 Weeks Committee.
- Serves as a conduct officer.
- Co-supervises student workers.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at enhancing and reinforcing the academic engagement and experiential learning capacity of the student experience. Projects programming outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
- Interfaces directly with students, attending student programming events and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student programming initiatives and objectives.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student programming goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student programs against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Serves on committees and performs student programming research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student programming initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
- May provide guidance to other Student Programming Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
Education- Required: Bachelor's degree in education, social work, public affairs, counseling, business, or related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field.
- 2 years in student services, higher education, or related field.
