Plating Engineering Supervisor

Position Overview

Plating Engineer Supervisor – located at Samtec’s headquarters in New Albany, IN. Responsible for continuous improvement of the plating process, overseeing process recipes, industrial engineering functions, and project management.

• Support global plating operations with integrity while evaluating, developing, and implementing new processes, materials, and technologies aimed at safety, quality, service, and cost.
• Lead cross‑functional teams for process control and improvement projects, employing Six Sigma tools such as DOE, hypothesis testing, and SPC.
• Develop the engineering team to ensure continual growth and innovation.
• Communicate project priorities, orders, and troubleshooting, coordinating efforts with cross‑functional groups.
• Maintain and update process documentation to meet manufacturing, safety, and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with Quality and Operations groups on continuous quality improvement and scrap reduction projects; lead initiatives to eliminate recurring quality problems.
• Partner with the plating laboratory supervisor to lead chemical process control and improvement projects, including SPC on key chemical variables.
• Work with lead R&D chemist to implement and troubleshoot new plating chemistry innovations.
• Collaborate with New Ventures Engineering to introduce new processes and technologies.
• Provide technical support on precious metal usage and reduction projects to meet company goals.
• Guide New Product Engineering on plating capabilities, implementing win/win solutions for product development.
• Assist as needed with additional tasks based on strengths and capabilities.

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related technical or science field.
• Minimum two years of experience in process, chemical, manufacturing, or an equivalent engineering position.
• Ability to stand, lift, and walk continuously.
• Willingness to work in a chemical environment.
• Self‑starter with strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in an electroplating environment.
• Experience in a leadership position.
• Training in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, statistical process control, and Six Sigma.
