Job SummaryResponsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
Responsibilities- Technical Expertise
:
Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis. Demonstrates competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. - Leadership & Guidance
:
Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees. - Planning & Organization
:
Coordinates development of input necessary to forecast costs for routine projects and improvements requisitions. Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning activities. Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not met. - Problem Solving & Initiative
:
Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems requiring additional definition/clarification. Identifies problems beyond normal routine and seeks out opportunities for new ideas. - Communication
:
Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses in a clear, concise, and effective manner. - Interpersonal Skills
:
Active team member. Networks with peers inside and outside the AEP system. Identifies key stakeholders, builds consensus, and resolves conflict. - Decision Making
:
Makes decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures. Demonstrates awareness of risks and draws logical conclusions. - Business Awareness & Characteristics
:
Understands AEP's organizational structure and budgeting/approval process. Proficient in economic analysis techniques. Understanding of utility regulation and financing.
- Engineer (Grade
7):
Typically holds a Bachelor's degree in engineering accredited by ABET with at least two years of related engineering experience. Master’s degree may be considered. Bachelor's in Engineering Technology may satisfy requirement if a certified PE license is obtained. - Engineer Sr (Grade
8):
Typically holds 4+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree accredited by ABET, or 2 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is encouraged. Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology may satisfy requirement if a certified PE license is obtained.
On‑Site in any of AEP's Operating Service Territory.
Compensation & Benefits- Engineer: $86,000 - $105,000
- Engineer Sr: $98,993 - $124,940

S – Sedentary work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
