Job Summary
Works within the System Performance Analysis group. The group conducts advanced system studies to support capital projects, including transient stability, voltage stability, electromagnetic coupling, insulation coordination, geomagnetically induced currents, electromagnetic field, and Power Quality using PSS/E, ASPEN One Liner, PSCAD, and Alstom electrical engineering technologies.
Responsibilities- Conduct system performance analysis and provide solutions to support planning, operations, engineering, regulatory, and financial needs.
- Perform electrical engineering studies related to power system stability, reliability, and compliance.
- Execute transient and voltage stability studies, insulation coordination studies, electromagnetic field studies, and geomagnetically induced currents studies.
- Conduct power‑flow analyses in support of system dynamic stability, system restoration, and geomagnetic disturbance analyses.
- Develop and maintain power system models.
- Calculate electromagnetic interference for overhead and underground transmission lines.
- Keep abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
- Interpret codes and regulations, and develop relevant standards.
- Provide guidance and exercise judgment in directing other engineers.
- Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of other engineers within the group.
- Ensure all work activities comply with company policies, standards, rules, and external regulations.
- Promote engineering professionalism and standards; coordinate and conduct training sessions.
- Participate in planning, establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements for responsibilities.
- Use scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities.
- Identify and initiate corrective action when objectives are not met.
- Analyze and resolve routine and complex problems, including analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
- Develop opportunities and present new ideas.
- Coordinate work of other engineers efficiently and effectively.
- Prepare clear, concise reports on complex technical subjects for management, professional societies, and regulatory bodies.
- Lead and facilitate meetings.
- Demonstrate collaborative and consensus‑building skills; function as team leader and member.
- Make decisions based on analysis of uncertain input and outcomes, handling conflicting interests and assessing risks.
- Manage project budgets, apply cost management techniques, and understand impact on organization’s expenses and revenues.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or Non‑ABET program if VP or above waives requirement).
- Engineer Associate SG6 (entry‑level) for new graduates; passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred.
- Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s degree preferred.
On‑site in New Albany, Ohio or Columbus, Ohio.
CompensationEngineer Associate SG6: $84,000 – $105,000 per year.
