Are you launching your career or seeking a fresh challenge as a seasoned technician? S&M E is searching for motivated, full‑time Construction Materials Engineering Technicians at all experience levels to join our Construction Services group in the New Albany/Louisville area.
What You Will Do:As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring construction projects, from local eateries to major sports venues, are built with quality and safety at the forefront. Whether you are new to the field or bring years of expertise, you will receive hands‑on training, mentorship, and opportunities to advance.
- Field & Lab Testing: Perform field and laboratory testing on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
- Sample Collection & Prep: Collect and prepare samples for analysis.
- Data Interpretation & Reporting: Interpret test results and prepare detailed reports.
- Team Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
Experience shifting work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).

Qualifications:- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
- Experience:
- Associate Technician/Technician I: 0-2 years relevant experience.
- Technician II: 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an associate degree.
- Technician III: 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an associate degree.
- Technician IV: 5+ years of relevant experience; prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus.
- Certifications: Industry certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI):
Field Testing Grade I;
Strength Testing Technician;
Laboratory Technician, and/or International Code Council (ICC):
Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils). - Key
Competencies:- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight.
- Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
- Valid United States driver’s license or International Driving Permit (IDP) with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate a company‑assigned vehicle safely (Truck or SUV).
Compensation and technician level will be based on experience and industry certifications.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:This role involves hands‑on work in outdoor environments; with Company‑provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), you will need to be comfortable with:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day).
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40‑50 lbs (field/lab samples and equipment).
- Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out‑of‑town and/or overnight) as project needs arise.
