Summary

Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the service programs of the library. Works collaboratively with community agencies and organizations to create partnerships to help meet social services needs of individuals and families in community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assessing the service needs of individuals and linking them to the appropriate resources and providers.
  • Oversee Food Pantry/Volunteer Coord ensuring all pantry health and safety requirements are maintained.
  • Help prepare staff to better handle crisis situations and convert the Library’s patchwork of partnerships and programs to a consistent array of services.
  • Facilitating programs and services, job training, and self‑sufficiency initiatives.
  • Developing a resource directory of local social service agencies and providers for easy access.
  • Serve on Library Leadership Team
  • Conduct outreach activities to develop a greater referral base and maintain community and social services resource network.
  • Advocate for adequate, timely, and cost‑effective services and respond to any issues that occur during the delivery of services.
  • Schedule appointments, answer phones and track individuals’ service records.
  • Oversee recruitment, interviewing, hiring and training of volunteers/interns.
  • Maintain good relationships with service providers and expand the list of resources.
  • Monitor the services being provided and stay up to date on any services being introduced or discontinued.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of individuals’ interactions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and respond to situations adhering to NASW’s Code of Ethics and professional conduct.
  • Evaluate the quality of all services and identify areas that need improvement.
  • Serve as a liaison for community partnerships with social service agencies.
  • Follow up with individuals regularly to assess and ensure their success.
  • Prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence and other documentation, including intake forms, statistical reports, mileage reports and requisition forms; compile data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; maintain individuals’ data files ensuring that file contents and case documentation meet established ethical and legal standards; and maintain computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision

This position supervises the Food Pantry/Volunteer Coord staff person.

  • Proficiency in planning, prioritizing and delegating tasks.
  • Ability to identify diverse community needs and work collaboratively to develop public‑focused programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Proficiency in working with community organizations and establishing partnerships.
  • Ability to relate and interact with people from all different backgrounds.
  • Expertise in reducing barriers to library services and working with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated reliability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field. MSW preferred.
  • 3‑5 years of experience preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Staying up to date with services, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong record‑keeping and analytical skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
