Job Summary
The engineer will lead teams and projects that solve unique and complex problems with a broad impact on the business. These efforts will contribute to the development of departmental or divisional strategy and implementation. The role participates and represents the organization on industry associations, mentors other employees, and demonstrates deep expertise in distributed generation as well as broad knowledge of other disciplines.
The engineer maintains knowledge of leading‑edge techniques or technologies through professional association participation and is recognized as an expert within the organization and the industry. The engineer explains complex ideas, anticipates potential objections, persuades others to change, and communicates orally or in writing to regulatory or public entities. The engineer leads teams, acts as a facilitator and experienced mentor, influences others to change, and provides leadership to teams or mentors for distributed generation interconnections.
- Proactively identify and perform special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business.
- Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes and services.
- Resolve unique and complex Distributed Generation (DG) interconnection problems.
- Utilize a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions such as customer generators, photovoltaic systems, and fuel cells.
- Approve, maintain, and understand drawings, including schematics and one‑line diagrams.
- Assemble documents and other requirements for assignments of complex difficulty using depth and breadth of expertise in one's discipline.
- Act as a recognized expert for generator interconnections.
- Interpret internal or external business issues and recommend best practices or process improvements.
- Participate in industry associations.
- Lead teams as a facilitator and experienced mentor.
- Develop innovative services and technologies and make recommendations regarding current and future stakeholder needs.
- Make presentations to regulatory or public entities when required.
- Facilitate DG interconnection project teams to complete assigned tasks and projects.
- Mentor engineers for DG interconnections in design and engineering development.
- Manage and provide direction for resources outside the department.
- Design systems to resolve overly complex problems in non‑standard situations and develop creative solutions that achieve division results.
- Apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines, and company policies and procedures independently.
- Interpret processes and standards related to DG and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Represent engineering on projects, task forces, and studies.
- Develop business cases and manage divisional and company‑wide projects, processes, and initiatives.
- Participate in developing project or process strategy in addition to project execution.
- Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, and control budgets, estimates, and construction plans.
- Participate in managing resource allocations to ensure adequate resources are available.
- Use knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
- Provide technical leadership in the most complex projects with wide business impact.
- Mentor, develop, and support the team in technical skills; serve as SME for the team, liaison or direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices; work independently with little supervision.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
- 10+ years of minimum relevant experience.
- Professional Engineering License required.
- Theoretical engineering knowledge in planning, operations and engineering design, analytics, modeling and calculation, understanding the business model, and a global view of the business; values cross‑functional collaboration and understands the importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships across the organization.
