Senior Engineer – Strategic Programs

Rochester, NY | 5 days a week.
Salary: $100,000 – $120,500 (based on location and experience).
Job SummaryNYSEG and RG&E are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team in identifying and developing transmission system investments that will modernize the electric grid and support the ongoing clean energy transition. As Senior Engineer, you will play a primary role in performing highly technical power system studies including modeling, simulations, and analyses to address system needs and support the company’s strategic vision.

- Perform and collaborate on power system studies (steady‑state, stability, short‑circuit, transfer limit, PV/QC, etc.) using industry‑standard software tools such as PSS/E, ASPEN, TARA, and CYME.
- Use highly proficient verbal and written communication skills to inform and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent NYSEG and RG&E in national and regional forums.
- Work independently to scope, analyze, and perform quality assurance of technical studies.
- Be accountable for the quality and timing of deliverables.
- Analyze and assess complex transmission systems at multiple voltage levels.
- Document and communicate results, including data representation, report writing, and developing/delivering presentations.
- Take advantage of company-sponsored training to develop subject‑matter expertise.
- Initiate process improvement opportunities and drive change; document best practices for consistency and knowledge transfer.
- Assist during storm restoration as assigned.
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
Experience
:
Minimum 5 years of industry experience in planning or operation of transmission and distribution power systems.
Advanced education or professional certifications will be considered a plus.
Technical Skills & Requirements- Software Proficiency
:
Advanced capability with steady state power system modeling and simulation software (TARA, PSS/E, Power World, PSLF, CYME, etc.). Consideration for experience with dynamic stability, short‑circuit, PV/QV, and transfer limit analyses. - Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge
:
Familiarity with Local, State, Regional, and Federal regulatory standards, processes, and requirements; ability to formulate action plans. - Teamwork
:
Experienced in collaborative work toward shared goals; adapt to changing scenarios. - Communication & Documentation
:
Clear and convincing conveying of ideas; written, verbal, presentation development; adequate documentation of engineering data. - Project Development
:
Understanding of considerations for scoping and developing preliminary project proposals.
