MEP Construction Manager
Vantage is looking for a MEP Construction Manager to manage and drive success on new and ongoing, small, medium-to-large-sized construction projects. The position covers all aspects of a construction project. Areas of expertise require autonomy and independent discretion in the following areas:
- RFP development and overall project budgeting
- Pre-bid oversight and coordination
- Managing all design phases and documents
- Customer engagement for sales and fulfillment of requirements
- Coordination and supervision of design-build contractors
- Coordination with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts
- Oversight of physical construction activities
- Participation in commissioning
- Hand-off of physical data center and project documents to operations
Essential Job Functions
- Project Management:
Manage project scope, schedule, and budget from inception through completion. Drive all aspects of construction, including pre-construction, design development, permitting and entitlements, competitive bid processes, team selection, construction oversight, commissioning, and project closeout. Cultivate ability to create business cases and bring projects from concept through internal project approval. - Collaboration and Coordination:
Collaborate with design teams, operators, and clients to ensure alignment with project goals and requirements. Work closely with Operations to coordinate design criteria with budgetary considerations and ongoing maintenance of existing facilities. Maintain awareness of the importance of mission-critical facility operation and ensure that all construction activities support this focus. - Financial Reporting and Budget Management:
Submit monthly project financial reports, including forecasting and cash-flow analysis. Review monthly contractor billing and perform job walks to substantiate progress and ensure accuracy. - Vendor Management and Contract Negotiation:
Develop, manage, and maintain vendor contracts, assisting with negotiation and ongoing relationships. Ensure that all contractual obligations are met and work products are delivered according to project requirements. - Compliance and Standards:
Manage the input and delivery of work products from internal team members to ensure that new data center spaces comply with project requirements, customer requirements, engineering standards, applicable codes, and specifications. - Process Improvement:
Develop, document, and drive lessons learned, process improvements, and cost and schedule savings initiatives throughout the project lifecycle. Implement best practices to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
Additional Duties:
Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field; or relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing construction projects of increasing complexity, with a focus on data center or mission-critical facilities. 7+ years preferred.
- Data Center experience is a strongly preferred.
- Experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction management is a requirement.
Skills:
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Travel required is expected to be up to 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves
