Field Engineering Responsibilities

  • Redline(s) The leads and superintendents oversee submitting changes to the Statement of Work. Redlines are completed and submitted to engineering by Field Engineers. Engineering creates an internal calendar to track tasks and finalization dates.
  • Build‑out Redlines Field Engineers check and verify that all infrastructure is installed to design specifications. They finalize redlines for closeout and follow up on any changes.
  • Fiber Redlines Using an internal tracker, Field Engineers verify all fiber scope per the customer provided design, updating the tracker as needed and finalizing redlines for review.
  • Copper Redlines The internal tracker provides information for close‑out. The Field Engineer may serve as the point of contact to ensure installation meets print specifications and submit redlines for review.
  • Network Redlines When required, the Field Engineer works with the team to configure details. Implementation of network redlines is primarily handled by the Field Engineer.
  • RFI Referencing/Implementation The Field Engineer references RFIs on the redlines as a final task before QA review.
  • Test Audits After projects are complete, the Field Engineer runs and verifies audits. They ensure cable schedules match prints, create audits promptly, and finalize audit packages once areas are fully audited.
  • Lessons Learned Engineers and QA update the lessons learned document throughout the build. At project completion, teams review the standardized template and fill out the lessons learned tracker.
  • Warranties The Field Engineer gathers warranty information toward the end of the build and submits required documents to complete warranties.
  • Product Submittals The Field Engineer completes product submittals, starting with the first submission after the RFP is issued. They verify the BOM with POs and obtain product sheets.
  • Labels The Field Engineer helps print labels before installation, organizing bins per area and maintaining a sign‑out sheet for leads. Reprints are emailed to engineering with reasons.
  • RFIs The Field Engineer may be the main engineer to oversee all RFIs before submission, agreeing with the engineering team on acceptance or rejection.
  • Design (Shop Drawings) The Field Engineer may oversee all design work, including verifying, brainstorming, submitting into BIM
    360, and keeping revisions updated. Focus areas:
    Infrastructure (Grounding/Bonding), Copper, Fiber, Detail sheets.
  • Qualifications
    • Physical and Mental Requirements: Self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to lead others in improving project processes.
    • Promotes company culture and mission to employees, vendors, clients, and partners.
    • Possesses problem‑solving, critical thinking, effective reading, writing, and oral presentation skills.
    • Diagnoses and fixes problems with existing equipment and new installations.
    • Enthusiastic, passionate, patient, and a critical thinker.
    • Communicates with customers and has excellent customer service skills.
    • Interprets blueprints and other project documents, including specifications and quality requirements.
    • Can travel within branch and/or regional territory as needed.
    Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
    • At least a high school diploma or GED equivalency; bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum 3–4 years commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
    • Works well with others.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and MS Project).
    • Meets company minimum driving standards.
    • Manages multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

    Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks, and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
