Job SummaryThe role is responsible for siting activities for multi‑million‑dollar electric transmission line and substation projects. Projects range from small scale to hundreds of miles in length, traversing multiple states. The successful candidate will understand the full range of issues related to the siting and routing of a transmission project and will be accountable for making sound recommendations and decisions. Areas of expertise include environmental (cultural, natural and visual resource assessment), utility corridor siting (utility regulatory requirements, stakeholder interaction, and permitting requirements) and project management.
The siting specialist will work in designated regions and states based on location.
- Ensure transmission siting activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels.
- Oversee outsourcing related to siting and regulatory approvals of transmission lines and substations.
- Work interdependently with a multidisciplinary project team to identify buildable, cost‑effective routes and facilities that minimize environmental impacts.
- Prepare and edit technical documentation for complex environmental assessments and siting studies.
- Prepare formal regulatory and local zoning applications.
- Develop and monitor schedules to complete siting tasks and manage identified risks and cost estimates.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and public open houses; support testimony before federal, state, and local agencies on transmission routing and substation siting.
- Work autonomously and mentor junior team members.
- Improve regional standardization and siting process development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of industry‑related experience with at least two years of direct siting experience preferred.
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written, organizational, presentation, oral communication, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
- Transmission Line Siting Specialist Senior (SG7)
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree as above. - Experience:
5–8 years of industry experience; 2+ years of direct siting experience.
- Education:
- Transmission Line Siting Specialist Principal (SG8)
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree as above. - Experience:
8–10 years of total industry experience; 4–6 years as a Senior or equivalent siting specialist.
- Education:
- Transmission Line Siting Specialist Staff (SG9)
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree as above. - Experience:
18+ years of total industry experience in transmission siting or related field.
- Education:
- Advanced written and presentation skills; ability to present to senior leadership on complex siting issues.
- Leadership and mentoring experience.
- Extensive knowledge of transmission line siting and utility industry complexities.
- Deep understanding of linear infrastructure planning.
- 25–30% travel required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive 3–6 hours at a time for site visits and stakeholder meetings.
- Overnight travel and field work required.
- Travel may include hiking or walking up to one to three miles occasionally.
- Extended hours may be necessary to meet deadlines.

Compensation- Senior (SG7): $87,633 – $109,544
- Principal (SG8): $98,993 – $128,689
- Staff (SG9): $116,255 – $151,132
S – Sedentary work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
