The Facilities Project Manager oversees projects involving electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire and life safety systems, and coordinates planning and execution from concept through commissioning. The position requires strong project management capabilities, cross-functional communication, and the ability to manage complex retrofit activities in an operational data center environment.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and prioritize a portfolio of retrofit and infrastructure projects across a multi-building data center site, including project intake, prioritization, and coordination of schedules with other campus activities.
  • Oversee strategic cross-functional communication for the project and portfolio, while delegating tactical communication to the retrofit team as appropriate.
  • Individually manage projects when needed to balance workloads and support portfolio priorities.
  • Leverage project management tools and internal milestone schedules to properly sequence activities for all site retrofits, regardless of size or complexity.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the retrofit team's staffing model supports the needs of the overall retrofit portfolio.
  • Represent the site for programs, standards, and processes throughout the holistic retrofit lifecycle, from concept through completion.
  • Serve as the primary site-level point of contact during the retrofit concept and design development phases.
  • Oversee the development of project charters, schedules, resource requirements, and work breakdown structures based on data center site portfolio needs.
  • Monitor risks and negative trends that could impact the optimized delivery of goals, and collaborate with Construction Project Managers to mitigate financial, schedule, safety, and quality risks.
  • Coordinate the efforts of project teams, including Project Controls, Safety, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, Scheduling, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure the execution of the commissioning process, leveraging on-site QA/QC resources and commissioning agents as applicable.
  • Ensure complete and accurate document turnover, including record drawings, owner's manuals, asset information, and related documentation.
  • Work directly with sourcing managers to help develop and support vendor contracts.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and priorities clearly to stakeholders in engineering, operations, construction, and related functions.
  • Comprehend and interpret plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings to support project planning and execution.
  • Forecast project budgets, schedules, and resource needs for the project portfolio.
  • Travel occasionally, up to approximately 10%, to support project and portfolio needs.
Essential Skills

  • Experience communicating project status, risks, and priorities to cross-functional stakeholders such as engineering, operations, and construction teams.
  • Experience forecasting project budgets, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire and life safety systems, as well as applicable building codes.
  • 7+ years of project management experience in any combination of construction, operations, maintenance, and project planning in complex environments, or a bachelor's degree in a related field with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency with one or more project management IT toolsets such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, or e-Builder.
  • Experience in data center operations or facilities operations, including a basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage data center infrastructure and retrofit projects in critical environments.
  • Vendor management and coordination experience.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, handle constant change, and learn new tools and processes.
  • Strong project planning and scheduling skills, including development of work breakdown structures and resource-loaded schedules.
