Job Summary
Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate-level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
Job DescriptionBased on education, experience, and interview, this opportunity will be filled commensurately at any title in the Engineer job family. Minimum requirements are written at the lowest grade; increased expectations are at higher grades.
What You’ll DoTechnical Expertise: Exhibits journey level proficiency plus advanced knowledge that enables the engineer to serve as a leader within the assigned organization, keeping abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment; understanding and analyzing interrelationships between systems and component equipment; interpreting codes and regulations, and developing relevant standards.
Leadership & Guidance: Provides guidance, exercises judgment, and directs other engineers; leads, facilitates, and coordinates the work activities of others within the work group, team, department, corporate entity, or external to the company as required; ensures compliance with company policies and external regulations; promotes engineering professionalism; coordinates and conducts training sessions.
Planning & Organization: Participates in plan development by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements for areas of responsibility; coordinates inputs for project cost projections; uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning; identifies corrective actions when objectives are not met.
Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies, clarifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to routine or complex problems, often involving analysis of incomplete or conflicting data; divides problems into component steps; consistently seeks opportunities and presents new ideas and approaches.
Communication: Coordinates work of other engineers efficiently; develops, reviews, or prepares clear, concise reports on complex technical subjects for management, professional societies, regulatory bodies, etc.; leads and facilitates meetings; builds consensus; functions as team leader and member, networks across disciplines to get things done.
Decision Making: Makes decisions affecting plans and goals based on analysis of uncertain input and outcomes; uses diverse approaches when frameworks are absent; handles conflicting interests; assesses options and risks; makes decisions that impact the department and major projects.
Business Awareness & Characteristics: Maintains awareness of AEP’s competitive position; understands organizational unit goals; establishes measurable goals and objectives; manages project budgets, cost management, and understands financial impacts; demonstrates awareness of profit incentives and growth optimization.

Engineer Associate (Grade6)
Salary Range: $84,000 – $87,000.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus two or more years of related engineering experience.
Individuals with a Master’s degree from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for entry at this level.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the requirement if a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license is obtained.

Engineer (Grade7)
Salary Range: $87,633 – $106,353.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus two or more years of related engineering experience.
Master’s degree from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for entry at this level.
* ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternative: a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non‑ABET) plus a Master’s or Ph.D. from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s program.
