Project Overview

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data centre markets.

Job Summary

The Environmental Scientist helps develop and execute the environmental component of an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program. Key activities involve administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position involves practical application of biology, ecology, chemistry, social sciences, and related disciplines for managing environmental aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to the Project EHS Manager or Project Environmental Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Integrates environmental requirements into project planning, permitting, design, construction, commissioning and startup, and operations.
  • Assists with development and implementation of environmental permits, plans, and studies.
  • Performs site assessments and surveys to identify site conditions and develop mitigation and sustainability strategies to protect the environment and local communities.
  • Provides technical guidance and support regarding mitigation measures pertaining to natural and cultural resources and communities.
  • Provides technical assistance within EHS teams and to other project groups regarding permitting, risk assessment, plan preparation, studies, and EHS program execution. Assists in the development and implementation of the project Environmental Management Plan and associated plans and procedures.
  • Identifies and tracks environmental issues, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder concerns.
  • Participates in emergency response, and aids investigation and resolution of EHS incidents.
  • Performs environmental monitoring, sampling, and inspections to confirm compliance with permits and project requirements and commitments.
  • Prepares training documents and helps with EHS training for project/facility employees and visitors.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, project/facility team members, and contractors and subcontractors to advise them of environmental requirements that may affect their work.
  • Performs data management, trend analysis, and report preparation and review.
  • Assists other team members in EHS program execution, inclusive of safety and health.
Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
  • Education and Experience Requirements:

    Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college in an applicable technical discipline such as environmental science, ecology, biology, natural resources, or related disciplines, 4 or more years of experience related to applicable environmental sciences or regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge or experience in environmental impact assessment.
