As a Controls Engineer at Amazon Web Services, you will design, implement, and optimize industrial control systems that power AWS data centers. You will own PLC, SCADA, and building management system integrations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations at global scale. In this role, you'll collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to define requirements, support commissioning, and resolve complex issues.
You'll use data, automation, and high engineering standards to drive continuous improvement, reliability, and energy efficiency in a fast-paced, customer-obsessed environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and optimize industrial control systems for AWS data centers, including PLCs, SCADA, and BMS systems
- Integrate controls with AWS infrastructure to ensure reliable, efficient, and secure data center operations
- Develop and maintain documentation, drawings, and standards for control architectures and automation assets
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, review designs, and support commissioning of new facilities
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Apply data-driven analysis to improve energy efficiency, capacity utilization, and operational resilience
- Support change management, testing, and validation of control system updates and firmware changes
- Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide technical support for critical incidents and root-cause analysis
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, automation tooling, and best practices across global sites
Required Skills
- PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- SCADA and HMI configuration
- Industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, BACnet)
