Data Center Lead Technician – Union Position
This role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. A key aspect is the continuous pursuit of sustainable, repeatable, and improved solutions and processes. The individual is expected to provide leadership to crews and provide structured feedback on project progress to various stakeholders, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining Data Center cleanliness, and adhering to all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
The role also requires collaboration with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles and the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation. A broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies is essential.
- Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
- Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
- Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
- Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
- Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
- Read and comprehend blueprints, building documentation, and redline work.
- Maintain a broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
- Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
- Capability to lead a crew of 1‑5 technicians.
- Customer service skills, including performing job walks and communicating with customers for job requirements.
- Responsibility for the outcome of work performed by the lead and by employees who directly report.
- Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
- Ability to read and understand job floor plans.
- Familiarity with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
- Ability to pull all types of low voltage cables.
- Skill in performing field terminations and labeling.
- Capability to maintain orderly paperwork and run midsize to large projects and service jobs.
- Skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable, and perform all types of terminations; basic understanding of fiber equipment and fiber terminations.
- Basic understanding of copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
- Capability to work in Data Centers.
- Ability to work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines.
- Ability to patch network equipment.
- Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting.
- Perform job walks and maintain paperwork while running service jobs.
- Term, test, splice, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cables.
- Effectively communicate with foremen, leads, and technicians.
- Understand metrics/SLA’s and ability to track them.
- Knowledge and understanding of network handover.
- Track lessons learned as they occur.
- Coordinate with QA/QC on quality status walks.
- Knowledge and understanding of project close‑out procedures.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of technicians.

Pay range for this position is subject to an applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. The negotiated rate for the Data Center Lead Technician position is $39.74 - $44.71 per hour. Please refer to the Collective Bargaining Agreement regarding pay scale.
