Tooling Technician
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Tooling Technician for a direct-hire opportunity with a leading automotive plastics manufacturer in New Baltimore, Michigan.
Pay Rate Up to $35/hr.
Overview Our client specializes in the design and production of high-quality plastic components for the automotive industry. They are seeking a hands-on Tooling Technician to support production by maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and improving injection molding tooling.
The primary focus of the position is troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining injection molds and production tooling, performing preventative maintenance, supporting tooling improvements, and resolving tooling-related issues that impact quality, uptime, and overall manufacturing performance. This role is ideal for someone with practical tool room experience who enjoys diagnosing tooling issues, performing repairs, and working closely with production and engineering teams to keep operations running efficiently.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain injection molds and production tooling.
- Perform preventative maintenance and tooling inspections.
- Conduct bench work, spotting, fitting, polishing, and flash repair activities.
- Identify root causes of tooling failures and implement corrective actions.
- Support tooling changeovers and production readiness activities.
- Perform welding repairs and tooling restoration as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to resolve tooling-related issues.
- Maintain tooling records and documentation.
- Follow safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
- 3–5+ years of experience in tooling repair, mold repair, tool room operations, or related manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and rebuilding injection molds or production tooling.
- Experience with bench work, spotting, fitting, and tooling maintenance.
- Welding experience, including repair welding, preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in automotive, plastics, injection molding, or related manufacturing environments preferred.
- CNC, EDM, machining, and hot runner system experience are beneficial but not required.
