Job Description

The Hall Monitor supports a safe and orderly environment in the school by supervising hallways, common areas, and entrances during school hours and events. This role works collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, and security staff to promote positive student behavior and prevent unauthorized activity on school grounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor hallways, stairwells, restrooms, cafeterias, and other common areas to ensure student safety and rule compliance.
  • Assist with student transitions between classes and help maintain orderly conduct.
  • Intervene in minor student conflicts and refer serious issues to administration or security personnel.
  • Greet visitors and ensure proper check-in procedures are followed according to school security protocols.
  • Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, or suspicious behavior immediately.
  • Enforce school rules and policies fairly and consistently.
  • Support school events and provide crowd control or supervision as assigned.
  • Maintain written reports or logs of incidents as required.
  • Notify administration of building repairs as it relates to the security of the school campus.
  • Review email and voicemail communications regularly and respond as needed.
  • Maintain regular and reliable in person attendance.
  • Follow all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, district policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and student matters.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Ability to supervise, direct and organize students.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with school‑aged children preferred.
  • Basic understanding of child behavior and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous in high‑stress situations.
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body and staff.
  • Ability to effectively speak, write and understand the English language.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Frequent walking, standing, and patrolling inside and outside the school building.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of radio or communication devices may be required.

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
