About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will lead the Association’s core accounting operations, including the close, GAAP financial reporting, annual audit, and development of the accounting team. The incoming Controller will help shape the role by improving processes, elevating reporting, and building greater efficiency across the finance function.
Key Focus Areas- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and related reporting.
- Prepare and analyze accurate financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses in accordance with GAAP.
- Own the annual audit process, including work papers, supporting schedules, and coordination with external auditors.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Prepare required governmental reports and the YMCA of the USA annual financial submission.
- Partner with the CFO on budgeting and lead process improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Three to five years of experience managing and developing a team.
- Direct experience with annual audits and strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems.
- An approachable, collaborative, and influential leadership style.
- Nonprofit experience, CPA designation or CPA-track experience, and payroll exposure are preferred.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000, plus additional benefits and bonus potential. Compensation is determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to the role, function, and associated responsibilities, as well as a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
