Job Description & How to Apply Below

Commercial Construction | Southern New EnglandTHE OPPORTUNITY

A well-established commercial general contractor is looking for an experienced Field & Shop Manager to take ownership of the people, equipment, and resources behind its self-performed construction operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role with an impact across the entire company. You’ll oversee field crews performing a variety of scopes while also running the shop, equipment yard, fleet, tools, and project-support operations that keep jobs moving.

Rather than being tied to one project, you’ll work across an active portfolio, partnering directly with field leadership, project teams, Safety, and senior management.

For someone who understands both how work gets built in the field and what it takes to support those crews behind the scenes, this is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on how the company operates.

WHY JOIN?

This is an established Southern New England contractor with a strong reputation, an active commercial construction portfolio, and a culture that values people who take ownership of their work.

The Field & Shop Manager will be trusted with real responsibility and the ability to improve operations, not simply maintain them.

What makes the opportunity stand out:
  • Company-wide impact: Support multiple projects and influence how field operations are planned and executed.
  • Real ownership: Take responsibility for the shop, yard, fleet, equipment, tools, and resources supporting field teams.
  • Variety: Work across carpentry, concrete, demolition, civil work, scaffolding, general requirements, logistics, and other self-performed scopes.
  • Leadership exposure: Work closely with the Production Manager, General Foreman, Project Managers, Superintendents, Safety, and company leadership.
  • Field + operational leadership: Stay connected to active construction while improving staffing, equipment, maintenance, logistics, and production.
  • Long-term opportunity: Join an established contractor offering career growth and professional development.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You’ll be responsible for making sure field crews have the people, equipment, materials, and support they need to perform safely and productively.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate staffing, crew assignments, equipment, materials, and logistics across active projects.
  • Support self-performed scopes including carpentry, concrete, demolition, civil work, scaffolding, cleanup, and general requirements.
  • Visit jobsites regularly to monitor production, safety, quality, and resource needs.
  • Manage the shop, equipment yard, fleet, tools, scaffolding, materials, PPE, and inventory.
  • Oversee equipment inspections, maintenance, repairs, certifications, rentals, and asset tracking.
  • Coordinate mobilizations, deliveries, equipment movement, and project support.
  • Work with project teams on estimating, budgeting, scheduling, productivity, and means and methods.
  • Help improve consistency, accountability, planning, and efficiency across field operations.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for an experienced commercial construction professional who understands both field operations and the equipment and resources required to support them.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of commercial construction experience.
  • Experience leading field crews, shop/equipment operations, or construction support.
  • Strong knowledge of construction equipment, vehicles, tools, maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience with self-performed construction and field logistics.
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, schedules, and work plans.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable using Excel, email, and digital tracking systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

OSHA 10+ is required. CDL, OSHA 30, hoisting licenses, CSL, forklift certification, and formal leadership training are preferred or may be required depending on the credential.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.

The company also offers:

  • Health and dental insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Opportunities for continued advancement
WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

This position is ideal for someone who likes being close to the work and close to the people doing it.

You understand that productive field operations require more than good supervision. Crews need the right staffing, functioning equipment, organized logistics, clear expectations, and support when problems arise.

If you’ve built your career around making construction operations run better and want the authority to make a broader impact across an established contractor, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
