Position:
* High School Special Education Woodshop Teacher
Summary:
* We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our high school as a Special Education Woodshop Teacher. As a member of our special education team, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction in woodworking and carpentry to students with diverse learning needs.
Your role will involve creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, adapting teaching strategies, and promoting the development of essential woodworking skills for students with special needs.
Responsibilities:
* Curriculum Development:
* Design and develop a comprehensive and inclusive woodworking curriculum that aligns with state standards, IEP goals, and individual student needs.
* Create and modify instructional materials and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
* Instruction and Differentiation
* Deliver engaging and hands-on woodworking lessons to students with special needs, using a variety of teaching methods, materials, and assistive technologies.
* Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students, including adapting tasks, providing scaffolding, and offering additional support when necessary.
* Incorporate real-life applications of woodworking skills to enhance student engagement and relevance.
* Classroom Management:
* Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment conducive to student success.
* Implement effective social, emotional and behavior management strategies, individual behavior plans, and positive reinforcement techniques to address challenging behaviors and promote a supportive classroom culture.
* Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and regularly communicate with parents, guardians, and other members of the educational team.
* Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
* Collaborate with special education team members, including administrators, psychologists, therapists, and support staff, to develop and implement effective IEPs for students with special needs.
* Attend IEP meetings, contribute valuable insights, and provide input on students' progress, goals, and accommodations related to woodworking.
* Assessment and Evaluation:
* Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor students' progress and skill development in woodworking.
* Utilize a variety of assessment methods, including observations, practical demonstrations, projects, and written assignments, to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
* Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure consistent evaluation standards across the curriculum
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
* Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
* Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a woodshop or vocational setting.
* Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, and safety procedures.
* Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
