The Assistant Principal at Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School plays a vital role in advancing our mission as a Signature School for Language and Global Education by fostering a joyful, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment for all students. In partnership with the principal, staff, families, and community, the Assistant Principal supports the academic, linguistic, social, and emotional development of every child, ensuring alignment with our core values of Leadership, Effort, Ambition, Respect, and Navigation (LEARN/APRENDO).

This role is instrumental in promoting rigorous, language-rich instruction in both English and Spanish. Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English are preferred, as they will help strengthen our dual language program, deepen family engagement, and support students in becoming confident, multilingual learners and leaders in a diverse world.

Responsibilities
  • Assists the principal in overall administration of the school.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the Elementary School administrative team.
  • Assumes responsibility for curriculum supervision and instruction for Elementary School.
  • Coordinates all curriculum development and implementation with the principal, directors, teachers, and staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school’s testing program (e.g., MCAS).
  • Assists the principal in development, implementation, and follow-up of all professional development initiatives.
  • Works with directors and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
  • Performs record‑keeping functions as directed by the principal.
  • Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups in advancing educational and related activities during and after school, including some evening assignments.
  • Assists in maintaining discipline and addressing special cases as necessary.
  • Assists the principal in supervising co‑curricular activities.
  • Assists the principal in scheduling teachers and students.
  • Assists in proposing schedules of classes and co‑curricular activities.
  • Requisition s supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories, maintains records, and checks receipts.
  • Coordinates and assigns substitute personnel as necessary.
  • Assists the principal in evaluating all teachers according to the Unit A Contract.
  • Performs any other tasks assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
  • Certified as an elementary school principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, with at least five years of successful teaching or administrative experience at the primary level.
  • Evidence of administrative and leadership ability.
  • Capacity to work cooperatively with pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and school administrators.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Elementary School Concept (highly preferred).
  • History of outstanding attendance at work and school activities.
  • Familiarity with No Child Left Behind rules, School Improvement Planning, and IDEA.
  • Master’s degree (preferred).
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

School Principal.

Employment Terms

Full‑time. In accordance with the provisions of the N.B.E.A., Unit B Contract.
