Position

Purpose:

This position provides instruction for grades 9‑12 in construction. Under the general direction of the principal, the teacher provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. The teacher maintains continuous evaluation of student progress, maintains and improves efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control, and performs all other related work as required.

Functions
  • Meet and instruct assigned students in construction concepts at designated times and locations.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of a superior.
  • Assist students to set and maintain standards of appropriate behavior.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet student needs.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Evaluate student progress on a continuing basis and maintain an effective system of monitoring to inform appropriate persons.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
  • Be available to meet with students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and demonstrate professional growth by attending meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal or Supervisor.
  • Cooperate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning their educational and behavioral progress.
  • Participate in the evaluation process.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Recommended Minimum Qualification
  • Chapter 74 Carpentry Grade 9‑14 license
  • High school diploma, equivalent, or higher degree.
  • Five years of full‑time employment experience directly related to the field of the license sought.
  • Possession of a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor license.
  • Passing score on each test (written test, performance test) in carpentry.
  • Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test (VTLST) or the Communication and Literacy Skills test.
Knowledge, Ability and Skills

Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge and use of materials and resources in accordance with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided. Demonstrates effective classroom management skills and provides sound and effective techniques of instruction.

Ability: Demonstrates the ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests; effectively utilizes class space to form an environment conducive to learning and uses instructional facilities, equipment and materials. Communicates effectively and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all school employees, students, teachers, parents, and vendors. Recognizes school‑wide priorities and works cooperatively to support their accomplishment.

Prioritizes multiple tasks and deals effectively with interruptions, occasionally under time pressure.

Skills: Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning and interest in students. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior.
