Special Education Teacher

The Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The role focuses on helping students access the general education curriculum, develop academic and life skills, and achieve educational goals in the least restrictive environment. Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students' learning needs and abilities. Adapt curriculum, teaching methods, and materials to support diverse learners.

Provide small-group and individualized instruction. Support students in developing academic, social, behavioral, and life skills. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Write measurable goals and objectives aligned with student needs. Track and report student progress toward IEP goals. Ensure compliance with federal regulations. Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student performance. Use data to guide instruction and adjust interventions.

Participate in reevaluations and eligibility determinations. Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers. Participate in IEP team meetings and multidisciplinary planning. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and needs. Implement behavior intervention strategies and plans. Promote positive behavior and a supportive classroom environment. Support students with social-emotional and behavioral challenges. Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and service documentation.

Ensure confidentiality and compliance with special education laws. Follow district policies and procedures. Strong instructional and classroom management skills are essential. Knowledge of special education laws and IEP processes is required. Ability to differentiate instruction and use evidence-based strategies is critical. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills are necessary. Ability to work with diverse student populations is important. The work environment is a classroom-based setting.

This role may require collaboration across multiple classrooms or grade levels. The position involves an active role with movement, supervision, and student support.
