Job Summary: As a member of MHCS Leadership Team, the Director of Staff Development collaborates with the Service Directors and Program Leaders to develop and implement the training plan for the respective programs, which is informed by evidence based practices and recovery-oriented principles, by developing training curricula, providing direct instruction, training and maintaining a pool of competent instructors, by coordinating and tracking trainings required for the MHCS workforce, and by providing consultation to supervisors regarding the implementation of specialized trainings to strengthen staff skill sets in response to specific identified deficiencies.

The Director of Staff Development supports Bay Cove’s mission by ensuring that the MHCS workforce is competent in partnering with Persons to reach their individual goals.

This is an exempt position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: At the discretion of the MHCS Vice President

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the various program models, training needs, identified priorities, and the individual roles and responsibilities of various positions in order to best inform the development of meaningful training curricula.
  • Collaborate with the MHCS Service Directors and Program Leaders to develop training curricula which ensure that all trainings provided are trauma-informed, rooted in evidence based practices, use recovery-oriented language, and are culturally, linguistically, and age-responsive while utilizing different training methods or activities that caters to a diverse audience of learners (online, role playing, mentoring, on the job training, professional development classes, etc.)
  • Create educational training aids and materials including multimedia visual aids and presentations and maintain a database of curriculum, materials, and personnel training records.
  • Market and promote training opportunities to the MHCS workforce in a compelling manner which encourages voluntary participation in staff development activities.
  • Develop and implement techniques for evaluating individual staff knowledge acquisition and application of learning following training.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training courses and provide summary reports to MHCS leadership, determining the impact of training on employee skills and programmatic outcomes, and adjusting curricula in response to evolving best practices and identified skilled deficits.
  • Organize and conduct train-the-trainer sessions for MHCS staff with self-identified interest in the provision of training (who have demonstrated competency and approval from their supervisors), coordinate the scheduling of trainers for needed trainings, and implement a system for evaluating trainers on an ongoing basis for competency and effectiveness in their training roles, providing consistent feedback and coaching to ensure the provision of high quality training.
  • Conduct orientation sessions in collaboration with other staff and provide direct instruction to staff as needed in formal training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, staff meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Identify, recruit, and coordinate training on selected continuing education topics, apply for continuing education training for LPHAs, and market events.
  • Utilize recovery-oriented language and principles in all communication and interactions with Persons, colleagues, and collaterals.
