Why NHCS?
Neighborhood House Charter School (NHCS) is a tuition-free open enrollment charter school for grades K1-12 in Dorchester that is a public alternative to traditional district schools. We serve over 800 students across two campuses predominantly from the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. We believe in the social emotional well-being of our students and know that a well-coached and supported educator is instrumental in helping our scholars both academically and in their SEL growth.

We do not give up on kids. Our expectation is that all of our students thrive at NHCS, graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education on the path to life success. Our educators are partners with our scholars and their families as they embark on this path.
What is the Humanities Academic Dean, Grades 3-7 role?
The Academic Dean is responsible for working with other members of the organization's instructional team, most notably the Academic Deans, School Principal, and Special Education Coordinator to lead efforts to systematize and improve elementary and middle instruction and outcomes for students in grades 3-7.
You will work at our Queen Street campus. The hours are Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m.

- 4 p.m.Final salary placement is determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Salary lanes reflect educational attainment and applicable licensure (i.e., MTEL).
Is this You?

  • Work with the Chief Schools Officer, Lower school and Middle School Principal to implement plans for curriculum, assessment, intervention, and professional development;
  • Co-facilitate the Lower and Middle School Instructional Leadership Team and participate in Middle and Lower school general leadership teams;
  • Coach teachers in pedagogy and curriculum through adopting NHCS Design Principles, conducting classroom observations, reviewing data and student work, modeling lessons and instructional moves, and engaging in unit and lesson planning meetings;
  • Monitor curriculum for alignment with NHCS curricular lenses of identity, inquiry, and accessibility; the science of reading;
    Common Core State Standards and MCAS; and make adjustments as needed;
  • Review and refine, ELA and Social Studies scope and sequence, pacing documents, instructional guides, and term assessment schedules for grades 3-7.
  • Monitor formative and summative assessment practices and expectations;
  • Facilitate Response to Intervention meetings and oversee the development and execution of teachers' intervention plans;
  • Develop and lead professional development sessions for staff and grade level teams;
  • Support teachers with administering benchmark literacy assessments, as needed;
