Position Description

The History Department at Boston College, in conjunction with the BC Irish Studies Program, invites applications for a senior scholar to serve as the inaugural Jane

B. and Thomas

E. Hachey Professor.

The appointment will be a tenured position at the rank of full Professor of History, with a preferred start in summer 2027. As the position holder will be a member of the History Department and the interdisciplinary Irish Studies program, applicants should also demonstrate an ability to collaborate with faculty in both, and a willingness to help lead Irish Studies with vision and imagination.

The expected 9-month base salary range (paid over 12 months) for this position is $195,000 - $215,000. The actual pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.

A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is required. Applicants should present a distinguished record of publication and extensive teaching experience in historical areas related to Ireland in global contexts, especially Irish-American history.
