The Sales Engineer will support design‑in activities for new customers while also providing technical support for existing accounts.
Job SummaryAs a key member of the technical and product marketing team, the Sales Engineer uses technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to understand customer needs, propose SCiB‑based solutions, and support the full business cycle. Responsibilities include customer acquisition, quoting, forecasting, preparing technical materials, presenting product features, and resolving technical or commercial issues.
This position provides technical support for both new and existing accounts involving SCiB battery cells, modules, and packs. The role reports to the National Sales Manager and is based on the West Coast.
Key Responsibilities- Work directly with customers and the National Sales Manager to understand battery product requirements and communicate them to the technical team in Japan.
- Support sales efforts by delivering technical presentations, reviewing engineering specifications, preparing quotations, and addressing questions throughout negotiation, production, and post‑shipment phases.
- Provide technical support to end customers and systems integrators designing SCiB cells or modules into their products or systems.
- Serve as the primary technical representative for day‑to‑day customer support.
- Collaborate daily with Toshiba’s technical team in Japan for product training and support.
- Assist with developing battery product specifications for customer use.
- Act as a bridge between engineering and manufacturing when battery modules or packs may be assembled locally at TIC Houston.
- Track customer development schedules and assist with prototype planning and deliveries.
- Maintain general knowledge of product offerings and relevant industry standards (UL, CE, NEMA, IEEE, etc.).
- Develop deeper expertise in SCiB applications and competitive product offerings.
- Create and review product literature such as manuals, brochures, application notes, success stories, and white papers.
- Follow all Toshiba policies and procedures while ensuring profitability in orders and quotes.
- May be responsible for review or sign‑off of quotes per Toshiba policy.
- Travel to customer locations: 25%–50%
- 5+ years of experience with a battery manufacturer, battery systems integrator, or major battery end‑user.
- Strong understanding of battery systems at the pack level.
- BS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong cross‑cultural communication abilities.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with strong analytical capabilities.
- Primarily a general office environment, with occasional exposure to electrical or heavy‑industry environments.
