The Axel Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our clients collaborative, employee‑owned team. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a variety of civil engineering projects with a focus on municipal water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, project coordination skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, cost‑effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage assigned engineering projects to ensure successful delivery within schedule, budget, and QA/QC standards
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports
  • Perform complex engineering calculations and hydraulic modeling for water and wastewater systems
  • Design municipal infrastructure including water distribution systems, sewer systems, stormwater systems, and roadways
  • Lead pump station design from concept through commissioning, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Design and integrate SCADA systems for monitoring and control of infrastructure
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and represent clients at meetings and hearings
  • Monitor project performance and provide regular updates to Project Managers
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support proposal development including scope, schedule, and cost estimates
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team development
  • Collaborate with field staff, contractors, and inspectors during construction phases
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with 4+ years of experience, or EIT with 5+ years working toward licensure
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in water/wastewater system design (Preferred)
  • Experience with pump station design and hydraulic systems
  • Interest or experience in SCADA systems and control system integration
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and hydraulic modeling software preferred
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
