Responsibilities
- Control operation of systems including steam generation, condensate, feedwater, turbine/generator, circulating water, service water, fuel handling, ash handling, electrical, fire protection, air pollution control and various computer networks.
- Read and interpret meters, gauges, recorders and annunciators to determine system operating conditions, taking action within prescribed normal and emergency operating procedures.
- Adjust and monitor temperatures, pressures, flow and levels on station primary system components for plant optimization.
- Initiate and conduct periodic surveillance tests on operating safety checks and tests on operating conditions.
- Maintain required logs and calculations; observe logs for indications of faulty operation and notify supervisor of abnormal system conditions.
- Monitor operation of systems and components including pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, grates, augers, conveyors, dust collections, etc.
- Monitor operability of fire protection systems, emergency backup equipment, electrical supply equipment and instrumentation associated with station systems and components.
- Monitor air pollution control equipment, accurately read, record data and report equipment malfunctions or trends indicating possible equipment danger.
- Identify and correct abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations.
- Understand and train other operators on the operating principles of the power facility’s systems, components and steam cycles.
- Valid Massachusetts Second Class Engineer’s license or higher.
- At least three years of experience with high pressure boilers and electric generating equipment OR formal technical training and a high school diploma or equivalent.

CompensationPay range: $84,734.00 - $ per year (annualized salary). Pay may be adjusted based on experience, education, location, skills and other factors.
