ABOUT TUNSTALL CORPORATION

Tunstall Corporation is a family‑owned manufacturers’ representative and distribution company with over 60 years of experience in the commercial HVAC industry. We serve the New England and New York area, and our reputation has been built on technical expertise, integrity, and the lasting relationships we have developed with the engineers, contractors, and architects we partner with every day.

As a multigenerational business, we take pride in developing our people for the long term. Our team is experienced, collaborative, and genuinely invested in the success of every person who joins us.

ABOUT

THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated and technically inclined individual to join our Engineering department as a Sales Engineer. This is a structured, mentored career‑track position. During your first year, you will work closely with our experienced engineering and sales staff, developing hands‑on proficiency in our product lines, selection tools, and customer workflows before transitioning into a full outside sales engineering role serving mechanical engineering firms and customers throughout the region.

We are committed to investing in your professional development. In return, we look for candidates who bring a strong work ethic, a genuine interest in HVAC, and the ambition to build a meaningful career in sales engineering.

WHAT YOU’LL DOYear 1 — Mentored Inside Sales Training:

Your first year is a structured training period. You will work side‑by‑side with our senior engineering and sales staff, receiving direct guidance and mentorship as you develop proficiency across each of the following areas:

  • Support the outside sales team by coordinating technical information, quotations, and project documentation
  • Use equipment selection software to identify and specify the right HVAC products for each application
  • Read and interpret building plans and architectural/mechanical drawings
  • Research applicable building codes and energy standards and apply them to project requirements
  • Communicate with vendor representatives to understand product capabilities, availability, and performance
  • Help develop product training materials, brochures, and sales literature
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues reported from active job sites, with guidance from our senior technical staff
Year 2 & Beyond — Outside Sales Engineering:
  • Working closely with the Vice President of Business Development to build and grow relationships with mechanical engineering firms and individual specifying engineers
  • Collaborate with architects and MEP firms on projects across the commercial HVAC market
  • Deliver product and technical presentations in person at engineering firm offices and remotely via Microsoft Teams
  • Travel throughout New England and New York to meet with customers and support the sales team (40–50% travel)
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for engineers throughout the design and specification process
  • Track projects from early design and work to close the right opportunities
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORPreferred qualifications include:
  • A working knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, and applied mechanical principles
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and building plans
  • Familiarity with building codes and HVAC‑related energy standards
  • Prior experience in HVAC sales support, estimating, project management, or field service
  • Experience with manufacturer‑provided HVAC equipment selection tools
  • Existing connections within the local mechanical engineering or construction community
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • Clear, professional communication skills — you’ll be corresponding with engineers, contractors, and vendor reps on a daily basis
  • Confidence presenting technical content to engineering professionals, both one‑on‑one and in group settings
  • Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • Organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort picking up equipment selection and CRM software
  • A collaborative, team‑first attitude and a commitment to treating people well
  • Genuine curiosity about how HVAC systems work and a desire to keep learning
