Role OverviewAs a Senior Technical Consultant – R&D Services
, you will play a key leadership role in supporting U.S. clients in identifying and qualifying their innovation activities for R&D tax incentives. You will work closely with both clients and internal financial teams to translate complex technical projects into eligible claims, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and maximum value.
In this role, you will lead technical assessments, manage client relationships, and ensure the precise translation of innovation activities into compliant and optimized R&D tax credit claims. You will take ownership of high-quality engagements and play a key role in delivering successful client outcomes.
This position is suited for experienced professionals with a strong technical background who are looking to combine technical expertise with client advisory, project ownership, and mentorship responsibilities. It is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in engineering, science, or related technical fields who have a strong interest in innovation funding and R&D tax incentives.
You will contribute directly to client success while supporting Leyton’s continued growth in the U.S. market.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Eligibility Assessment- Lead the evaluation of client projects to determine eligibility for R&D tax incentives
- Apply deep technical expertise to assess innovation, experimentation, and qualifying activities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for client technical stakeholders (engineers, developers, scientists)
- Lead technical interviews and guide clients through the R&D claim process
- Oversee the preparation of detailed, compliant technical reports aligned with IRS and state requirements
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and defensibility of all technical deliverables
- Partner closely with financial consultants to translate technical findings into quantifiable claims
- Support alignment between technical and financial outputs for optimized client results
- Lead responses to technical queries from tax authorities
- Support audit defense processes and ensure robust documentation standards
- Advise clients on best practices for structuring, documenting, and optimizing their R&D activities
- Identify opportunities to enhance future claims and long‑term value
- Contribute to internal best practices, methodologies, and training initiatives
- Mentor junior consultants and support team development
Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of experience in R&D consulting, engineering, or technical roles (R&D tax experience is a plus)
- Strong technical background (Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or related field)
- Ability to understand and articulate complex technical concepts clearly
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Interest in innovation funding, tax credits, and advisory services
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, or a related technical field
