TITLE:

Educational Translation & Interpretation Services Specialist

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways, manages translation and interpretation services throughout the district. The district is committed to an inclusive curriculum and community that reflects the diversity of its student population. The role requires dedication to inclusion and an interest in fostering a diverse learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all requests for translations and/or interpretations in the district
  • Maintain a list of and availability of translators and interpreters
  • Manage the schedule of interpreters for schools and family events
  • Manage monthly reports and ensure timely submission of payroll
  • Audit information in documents for accuracy
  • Serve as an emergency/substitute interpreter/translator when needed
  • Ensure all district materials are available in multiple languages for online, print, or oral distribution
  • Work with schools and central office departments to ensure that all materials are translated prior to distribution
  • Assess the district’s needs to develop a plan for services and anticipated budget impact
  • Monitor state and federal guidelines to ensure compliance
  • Manage translation vendor services
  • Perform related duties as needed
  • Perform work directed by the Superintendent, Executive Director, or designee
  • Education, Training, and Experience Requirements
  • Interpreter Certificate preferred
  • Multilingual with preference for Spanish
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing translation services in an educational setting preferred
  • Experience working with staff from diverse cultures
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification.

    Must be fluent in one of the following languages:
    Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, or Haitian Creole.

    Terms of Employment

    Salary Range: $25 – $27 per hour

    Hours Per Week: 35 hours per week

    Physical Demands: No requirements such as lifting heavy objects or frequent climbing

    Overtime Eligible: Yes

    Work Year: 12 months

    Reports To: Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways

    Position Type: Full-time
