The per diem Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), Urgent Care provides patient-centered acute care services within a team-based Federally Qualified Health Center model.

This role is designed to provide same-day patient access through New Bedford Community Health’s Urgent Care model.

Position Includes

Per diem Urgent Care Shifts

Urgent Care Clinical Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage acute illnesses and injuries across the lifespan within the scope of practice

Perform focused histories and physical examinations

Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic testing

Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with Massachusetts regulations and organizational policy

Perform procedures within the scope of practice, including but not limited to:

Suturing
Splinting
Incision and drainage
Wound care

Triage and manage higher-acuity patients appropriately

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and ancillary staff to ensure efficient patient flow

Documentation & Compliance

Complete accurate and timely EHR documentation

Close encounters and inbox tasks within organizational time frames

Maintain compliance with organizational, state, and federal regulations

Participate in quality and operational workflows as assigned

Team-Based Care

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, behavioral health clinicians, and other care coordination staff

Promote a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centered environment

Participate in team huddles, workflow discussions, and quality improvement initiative

Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume clinical environment
Strong organizational and inbox management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfort utilizing electronic health record systems and telehealth platforms
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands
Commitment to underserved and diverse patient populations

Work Environment and Expectations

Fast-paced Urgent Care setting with shifts on a per diem basis
May include weekend urgent care coverage, depending on operational need.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program

Experience:

Preferred Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Faily Medicine, or Primary Care experience.

Certification/Licensure:
Current Massachusetts NP or PA license (or eligibility), DEA registration when applicable, National certification appropriate to specialty. BLS required, ACLS preferred.

Software/Hardware:
Preferred experience utilizing electronic health records.
