Overview
Newport News, Virginia – The Lifelong Health Protection Officer works under the direction of the Supervisor and is responsible for protecting the facility and personnel from property loss and criminal activity. The officer provides services and assistance as outlined by policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients, residents, and visitors.
Responsibilities- Monitor fire, intrusion, duress, life alerts, Wander guard, and security alarm systems and respond as appropriate.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Genetec access and video system and Worxhub.
- Function in emergency circumstances as directed and operate communications equipment.
- Maintain positive public relations with the community and escort employees, visitors, and residents as requested.
- Assist with transportation and lifting of residents and with visitor management credentialing.
- Direct and assist residents, visitors, employees, contractors, and other members of the public to the appropriate parking areas and entrance of the facility.
- Assist with employee, contractor, and visitor badging, ensuring all persons comply with established policies.
- Patrol the interior and exterior of the campus to prevent and detect criminal activity.
- Write traffic warnings and incident reports and ensure appropriate equipment is in the assigned vehicle, maintaining its performance.
- Perform facility department functions in the absence of Facilities, maintain logs, input work orders into Worxhub, complete training modules, and keep files, SOPs, and blotter current.
- Make written reports of incidents or unusual circumstances, providing detailed information for quality monitoring through rCare and pass downs.
- Bring safety matters, accidents, injuries, and protection problems to the attention of the Supervisor.
- Complete computer‑based learning modules and other employee training modules necessary to remain up to date on safety issues, procedures, and processes.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement and participate in process improvement and departmental in‑services.
- Ensure safe practices in accordance with National Patient Safety Goals and RHS policies and procedures.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area in compliance with RHS, NFPA, ISO, DNV, and state safety standards.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: higher education.
- Experience: 1 year prior experience with security in a health care or other setting. Preferred: experience in a health care environment.
- Skills & Abilities: Prioritize and complete assignments accurately and timely; adapt to changing work assignments; communicate reliably and accurately with team members.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles.
- CPR/BLS Certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute) within 90 days of hire (required).
- Certified Auto External Defibrillator (AED) within 90 days of hire (required).
- Certified Crisis Prevention (CPI) – The Crisis Prevention Institute within 90 days of hire (required).
