Job Summary:
The Therapeutic Mentor (TM) provides youth under the age of 21 in any setting—home, community, etc.—structured, one‑to‑one, strength‑based support services designed to address daily living, social, and communication needs. Services are aimed at supporting age‑appropriate social functioning or ameliorating deficits in the youth’s social functioning. Therapeutic mentoring includes supporting, coaching, and training the youth in age‑appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem‑solving and conflict resolution, and relating appropriately to other children, adolescents, and adults.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct time with youth engaged in activities in the home and community that address goals on the youth’s treatment plan or ICP.
- Provide coaching, support, and training to ensure youth success in navigating social contexts, learning new skills, and achieving functional progress.
- Maintain phone and face‑to‑face consultation with youth on a regular basis (at least weekly and as needed).
- Collaborate with other professionals involved with the youth and family, such as case managers, probation officers, judges, attorneys, teachers, and physicians.
- Maintain awareness and sensitivity to contextual variables such as race, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, economics, and lived experience.
- Submit detailed progress reports and comply with guidelines.
- Provide transportation to youth for treatment‑related activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with proper auto insurance required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience volunteering or working with youth.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English or Portuguese preferred.
